The Galway Astronomy club is a public group of people who meet monthly and share an interest in astronomy and its related subjects. We have a very active club with a membership of over 70 people from all walks of life and ages from beginners to advanced amateur astronomers.
Our new website and Facebook page act as a platform to educate the public via the web, this page also servers as a platform for very accurate Aurora predictions with about 1 hours advance notice available a times.
Visitors and new members are welcome regardless of age, experience, or any equipment they might (or might not) own. We have well-known and popular guest speakers, see the events tab on our website. All lectures start at 8pm. Our own members also give talks and presentations about subjects related to astronomy. For the autumn we are starting a beginners astronomy course which will take place from 7.30pm-8pm at each meeting, with the first on the subject of “Observing the Moon”
Why not come along to our observing sessions where you will be able to see and use various telescopes, etc?
To start just come along to one of our informal monthly meetings, as previously mentioned , all levels of interest are catered for and everyone is welcome. If you have a telescope and are having difficulty or need advice on anything astronomical please ask as we are more than happy to help. Members of the public are welcome to attend also even if they do not wish to become a full time member.
